This position guides inmate workers in daily food service operations and teaches essential vocational skills for food production and preparation.  As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Food Service Instruction: Teach inmates how to prepare, produce, serve, and bake food while following safe and sanitary practices
  • Safety Oversight: Inspect food areas, tools, equipment, and products to ensure they meet required safety and sanitation standards
  • Supply Management: Review census and menu information, adjust recipes, recycle leftover food, and manage food and supply inventories
  • Work Assignment Planning: Plan inmate work tasks, evaluate performance, and maintain all required inmate worker records
  • Care and Custody: Maintain care and control over inmates during work assignments and exercise physical intervention if necessary

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours/week
  • Work hours and days off to be determined.  Hours will be either 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM OR 4:45 AM to 12:45 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. 
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
