As an Intelligence Analyst Trainee with the Pennsylvania State Police, you will build essential skills that support criminal investigations and public safety. You will train with experienced analysts who guide you through the intelligence cycle step by step. This role introduces you to the core responsibilities of analyzing information, supporting investigations, and helping maintain statewide security efforts. You will gain experience in gathering data, assisting investigators, and preparing intelligence materials that support law enforcement activities. As an Intelligence Analyst Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

  • Information Research: Conduct research using computer systems to organize and categorize intelligence data
  • Investigative Support: Work with investigators to review, analyze, and share reports related to security matters
  • Data Analysis: Examine criminal intelligence information to help develop leads for ongoing investigations
  • Tip Evaluation: Assess the accuracy of incoming tips and identify which agency should receive the information
  • Agency Coordination: Maintain communication with analysts in partner agencies to support information sharing
  • Operational Assistance: Provide planning support for incidents, alerts, and emergency response activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours: Rotating shifts, including holiday and weekends.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,948.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 60 college credits.
  •  Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, homeland security, intelligence studies, or criminology.
  • This position requires possession of a Top Secret Security Clearance issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or attainment of this clearance during the probationary period, and continual maintenance of this clearance during employment in the position. Failure to obtain and maintain FBI Top Secret Security Clearance will result in the employee's removal from the position. Removal may result in the termination of employment if other placement options are not available.
  • You must obtain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Internship experience with a criminal justice agency
  • Completion of a Pennsylvania Criminal Intelligence Center (PACIC) Analyst Tutorial within the last year

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
