The Pitt–Greensburg Study Abroad Office supports students in pursuing international and domestic study abroad experiences that broaden their academic, personal, and professional horizons. The office works closely with students from their first inquiry through program completion, helping them identify opportunities that align with their academic goals, budget, and interests.
The Pitt-Greensburg Study Abroad Office helps promote a campus culture that values global engagement, assists students with program selection and applications, coordinates with academic advisors to ensure coursework transfers appropriately, and connects students to financial aid and scholarship resources that make these experiences accessible. The office plays a key role in helping students translate their global experiences into skills that stand out on resumes and in future career opportunities.
The office operates in close partnership with the University of Pittsburgh's Global Experiences Office (GEO), based on the Pittsburgh campus. This collaboration gives Pitt-Greensburg students access to the full scope of University-wide study abroad options while receiving personalized, campus-level advising and support.
Oversees all aspects of planning, design, and execution of assigned small, routine projects and coordinates with project stakeholders to define project scope, goals, and deliverables. Assists in timeline development, ensures adherence to timeframes, and adjusts project deliverables to avoid issues. Performs budgetary functions and administrative tasks. Assists with external consultant and vendor selection, negotiation, and management.
The Study Abroad Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for study abroad programming at Pitt-Greensburg. In this role, the employee is responsible for the following:
- Promote study abroad opportunities to prospective students (e.g., admissions events) and current students at the Greensburg campus;
- Serve as the primary liaison between Greensburg students and faculty and the Global Experiences Office (GEO) on the Pittsburgh campus, ensuring consistent communication and coordination across both offices;
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of program offerings, University policies, and procedures governing student travel and new program approval, in order to provide accurate guidance to students and colleagues;
- Advise students on academic planning, helping them integrate study abroad experiences into their degree progress; guide students through the application process, financial aid implications, and health and safety considerations;
- Manage advising-related administrative functions, including course enrollment and the review and posting of final grades for study abroad programs;
- Coordinate pre-departure orientation and re-entry programming in partnership with the Pittsburgh campus;
- Identify, develop, and cultivate new study abroad opportunities in collaboration with Pitt-Greensburg administration and academic departments;
- Support the onboarding and advisement of international students at Pitt-Greensburg;
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with other University units supporting global engagement, such as the University Center for International Studies (UCIS) and the David C. Frederick Honors College (FHC) and serve as the Vira Heinz Program Coordinator for Pitt-Greensburg;
- Serve as instructor for one to two sections of Cornerstone annually;
- Coordinate logistics for study abroad programs, including itineraries and budgets;
- Collect program feedback and assessment data; prepare reports annually and as requested;
- Partner with the Office of Financial Aid to process financial aid awards and scholarships for study abroad participants.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of study abroad program administration, including application processes, academic credit transfer, and health and safety considerations, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff across multiple campuses. This position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and budgets simultaneously, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office and student information systems. The candidate will be responsible for planning and promoting study abroad events, including info sessions, orientations, and fairs, to raise awareness and drive student participation in program offerings.
This position is primarily sedentary in nature, involving extended periods of sitting and computer work. The employee will also need to walk across campus to attend meetings, classes, and events, and may occasionally be required to carry materials for events, not to exceed 15 pounds.
