The General Real Estate Appraiser position with the Department of Transportation offers an exciting way to apply your real estate expertise in public service. This role lets you evaluate residential properties and contribute to important highway improvement projects. This role coordinates appraisal activities, provides technical guidance, and ensures that property valuations meet state and federal requirements. It supports highway improvement efforts by reviewing appraisals, preparing documentation, and assisting with legal proceedings. As a General Real Estate Appraiser, you will perform the following duties:

  • Appraisal Oversight: Review appraisal reports, resolve discrepancies, and ensure compliance with standards
  • Technical Guidance: Provide direction to staff and assist with complex valuation challenges
  • Contract Preparation: Prepare bid forms, open sealed bids and award fee appraisal contracts
  • Right Of Way: Manage excess right of way sales including advertising, agreements and auction activities
  • Legal Support: Assist attorneys and staff with preparation for hearings, trials and property plan reviews
  • Staff Leadership: Assign work, evaluate performance, and guide training for appraisal personnel

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,538 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Certified General Real Estate Appraiser certification.
  • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
