As an Automotive Mechanic with the Department of Transportation, you work on a wide mix of vehicles and tools that support daily operations across Pennsylvania. This position focuses on maintaining and repairing vehicles, construction equipment, and powered hand tools to ensure safe, reliable operation. You perform preventive maintenance, mechanical diagnostics, and official inspections as part of daily responsibilities. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Repairs: Perform maintenance and repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment while replacing worn or damaged parts
- Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine servicing including oil changes, tune-ups, tire changes, and adjustments to major systems
- State Inspections: Complete official safety and emissions inspections, apply inspection stickers, and finalize required records
- Diesel Servicing: Service diesel equipment by replacing components, repairing systems, and conducting basic maintenance tasks
- Field Work: Provide emergency road service and complete repairs outside the garage when required
- Safety Compliance: Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries promptly
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,819.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
- You must be a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic for Class 7 vehicles.
Additional Requirements:
- You must provide your own mechanics toolbox and basic tool set.
- You must possess a CFC-12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate and a 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate upon hire.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
