As a Tax Examiner 1 with the Department of Revenue, Bureau of Business Taxpayer Accounting Business Tax Payment Refund Division Administrative Review Section, you will take part in essential work that keeps tax systems functioning smoothly. This position allows you to learn how to review payments, assess accounts, and communicate with taxpayers. This position helps ensure tax returns and payments meet state requirements by reviewing information and supporting taxpayer assistance. As a Tax Examiner 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Taxpayer Assistance: Help taxpayers file taxes through Telefile or myPath and provide information when needed
- Payment Processing: Review, apply, and adjust payments to ensure proper posting on accounts
- Account Review: Examine correspondence, assessment responses, and returns to determine accuracy and required action
- Credit Transfers: Transfer credits or payments to correct accounts or periods when errors are identified
- Calculations Work: Calculate penalties, interest, and payoff figures using spreadsheets or calculators
- Communication Duties: Contact taxpayers by phone or in writing to verify information and explain policies and procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch or 9:00 AM to 5: PM with 30 minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time after successful completion of the in-office training period of 6 months. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of general office work; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
