UPMC is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Department of Ophthalmology located at 4401 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. This position works Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and plays a key role in delivering exceptional patient care in a busy ophthalmology practice. Responsibilities include obtaining patient histories, performing visual acuity testing, administering eye drops and dilation as directed, and completing ocular imaging when needed. The Ophthalmic Technician will work closely with physicians and clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience. Travel to Pine, South Fayette, and Monroeville offices is required approximately 10–20% of the time to provide staff coverage and support operational needs. - Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
- Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.
- Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Valid CPR certification
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
