Since 1896, the School of Dental Medicine has been educating students to take their places among the best dental practitioners in our region and across the country. The School is seeking a Dispensary Clerk with primary responsibility for distributing instruments and supplies in our DMD student dental clinic, where third- and fourth- year student dentists treat patients with oversight and direction from faculty.

As a member of the broader Instrument Management Service staff, the incumbent will also be expected to learn and participate in all phases of preventive maintenance of instrumentation and essential steps of sterilization. This position requires basic computer skills, strong service orientation, and the ability to work as an effective member of a team. Experience in healthcare and knowledge of standard sterilization practices within a clinic setting are desirable, though not mandatory.
The Dental Instruments department supports the DMD student dental clinic, where third- and fourth-year dental students treat patients under faculty supervision. The team manages instrument distribution, sterilization, and preventive maintenance to keep clinic operations running smoothly, playing a key role in infection control and day-to-day patient care support. Strong customer service skills and close attention to detail are essential, as staff regularly interact with students and faculty while ensuring instruments and supplies are accurately tracked and accounted for.
 

Issues dental instruments and equipment to dental students utilizing proper sterilizations protocols and an electronic database. Inspects cassettes for missing instruments and stocks dispensary and operatories. Assists clinic staff and assists in dental sterilization.

Essential Skills:· Managing instruments and supplies, basic computer tasks. This position requires basic computer skills, strong service orientation, and the ability to work as an effective member of a team. Experience in healthcare and knowledge of standard sterilization practices within a clinic setting are desirable, though not mandatory.  Job Responsibilities: Perform duties in Central Sterile, following infection control practice· Maintain instrumentation and operate sterilization equipment. Issue instruments to dental students in the assigned clinic module, electronically. Checking cassettes out and back in through the electronic health record dispensary module. Check cassettes for missing instruments and engages promptly with the student dentist to minimize loss.
Maintain optimal level of supplies of other necessary items to ensure ready availability with minimal waste.  Dispenses supplies as needed.  Use downtime to assist IMS projects or other duties as assigned by supervisor.  Perform other duties assigned related to the operations of the department.

Incumbent will be required to move around within building and in dispensary to access necessary supplies and instruments. Limited lifting may be  required.
