The University of Pittsburgh Center for Excellence in Digital Education, or Pitt EDGE, supports the planning, development and implementation of online, hybrid and continuing education programming through centralized services and the engagement of existing teams within the University’s 16 schools, including the Health Sciences
This role sits within Pitt EDGE (the Center for Excellence in Digital Education), the shared digital infrastructure team operating inside the Marketing, Communications, Recruitment & Enrollment (MCRE) organization at the University of Pittsburgh. EDGE serves as a centralized center of excellence supporting all 14 of Pitt's graduate and professional schools, providing capabilities across paid media, web operations, analytics, data engineering, attribution modeling, CRM, and AI-enabled systems.
The Web Developer/UX Designer is a core member of EDGE's web and digital experience function, with primary ownership of the Pitt Online platform (online.pitt.edu) and its associated program landing pages, campaign assets, and templated components. The position partners closely with paid media strategists, content writers, analysts, and enrollment stakeholders to translate marketing and recruitment goals into user-centered, accessible, on-brand digital experiences. Because EDGE operates as shared infrastructure, work produced in this role directly supports enrollment marketing efforts across multiple schools and programs rather than a single department.
Creates and maintains process and user flows, dynamic user interfaces (UIs), journey maps, and interaction models. Provides technical design consultation and translates complex ideas into understandable concepts. Disseminates research findings. Employs human centered design methodologies to strategically define ideal experiences across in-person and digital touchpoints.
• Serve as the CMS (Content Management System) owner and primary website manager for Pitt Online and related digital platforms, including day-to-day back-end operations, content publishing, and site maintenance.
• Design and implement website updates and new page layouts that support enrollment and marketing objectives.
• Work in Figma to create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes for review and stakeholder alignment.
• Customize templates and make basic HTML/CSS adjustments to extend and refine platform components.
• Ensure responsive design and consistent performance across devices and browsers.
• Optimize the website for user experience and conversion, applying UX best practices and iterative improvement.
• Assist with building and designing email templates in support of campaign and lifecycle communications.
• Implement and maintain accessibility standards, ensuring WCAG compliance across pages and components.
• Collaborate with the content writer on page layouts, information hierarchy, and visual presentation of copy.
• Monitor website performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and coordinate resolution with internal teams and vendors as needed.
This is a primarily sedentary role performed in a standard office or remote-office environment. Work is conducted predominantly at a computer workstation and requires extended periods of sitting, along with the frequent use of a keyboard, mouse, and monitor and the ability to view detailed on-screen visual content for prolonged periods. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (typically up to 10–15 pounds, such as a laptop or office materials) may be required. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
The University of Pittsburgh is an equal opportunity employer / disability / veteran.
