UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh – Same Day Surgery is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to join our fast-paced, patient-focused perioperative team!
• Provide high-quality preoperative and postoperative nursing care for pediatric surgical patients

Responsibilities:
- Applies the nursing process within Relationship-Based Care to create a healing, patient-centered environment; develops daily care plans in partnership with patients, addressing holistic needs.
- Communicates effectively, translates patient conditions to the care team, and makes informed recommendations to improve care; maintains thorough, clear documentation.
- Uses critical thinking to identify and address clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual patient needs; aligns practice with quality, safety, and patient experience goals.
- Builds compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to enhance care delivery.
- Identifies opportunities for quality and workplace improvement; integrates evidence-based practice and participates in innovation initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN preferred, but not required
• Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate care based on patient population served
• Strong understanding of growth and development across the lifespan
• Ability to assess, interpret, and respond to patient-specific clinical needs
Professional Expectations & Advancement
• Must achieve and maintain a “Solid/Strong/Good” or higher on Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluations
• Career ladder advancement available based on performance and professional growth
• Completion of annual professional contributions aligned with department, hospital, or system goals OR
• Obtain and maintain a UPMC-approved nursing certification within 1 year of hire/transfer
• Certification requirement may be waived if candidate holds a Master’s in Nursing or DNP
• If BSN is held, a Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for certification

Licensure, Certifications, & Clearances
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Valid in the state of practice or from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) participating state
- Candidates relocating to a non-compact state must obtain in-state licensure within 60 days of residency change
• BLS/CPR certification (AHA) required within 30 days of hire
• UPMC-approved nursing certification preferred (see above requirements for timeline and alternatives) - Act 31, 33, 34, 73 clearances
