We are looking for a Controller / Accountant to oversee accounting operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This individual will manage day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, payroll, tax compliance, and month-end/year-end close activities while supporting clients with timely financial information. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys problem-solving, process improvement, and working collaboratively in a client-focused environment.
Responsibilities of the Controller / Accountant:
Oversee accounting and bookkeeping functions, including bank reconciliations
Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, loans, debt, and equity
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing and vendor payments
Oversee payroll processing, payroll tax reconciliations, W-2 reporting, and related liabilities
Prepare and file sales tax returns
Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures
Prepare and review financial statements for accuracy and completeness
Analyze financial reports and investigate variances
Prepare and review business and individual tax returns
Communicate financial information and recommendations to clients
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiencies
Skills
Strong knowledge of corporate accounting principles and public accounting practices
Proficiency with accounting software, including QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBD)
Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations
Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and sales tax processes
Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP or Paychex
Strong understanding of financial reporting and financial statement preparation
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Qualifications
Bachelor''s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Required)
CPA certification required
Previous experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or controller-level responsibilities
Experience with financial reporting, payroll, tax preparation, and client accounting services
Public accounting experience (Preferred)
