We are looking for a Controller / Accountant to oversee accounting operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This individual will manage day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, payroll, tax compliance, and month-end/year-end close activities while supporting clients with timely financial information. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys problem-solving, process improvement, and working collaboratively in a client-focused environment.

Responsibilities of the Controller / Accountant:

  • Oversee accounting and bookkeeping functions, including bank reconciliations

  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, loans, debt, and equity

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing and vendor payments

  • Oversee payroll processing, payroll tax reconciliations, W-2 reporting, and related liabilities

  • Prepare and file sales tax returns

  • Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures

  • Prepare and review financial statements for accuracy and completeness

  • Analyze financial reports and investigate variances

  • Prepare and review business and individual tax returns

  • Communicate financial information and recommendations to clients

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiencies

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of corporate accounting principles and public accounting practices

  • Proficiency with accounting software, including QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBD)

  • Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations

  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and sales tax processes

  • Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP or Paychex

  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and financial statement preparation

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency

  • High attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Required)

  • CPA certification required

  • Previous experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or controller-level responsibilities

  • Experience with financial reporting, payroll, tax preparation, and client accounting services

  • Public accounting experience (Preferred)
