Accounting Assistant - SCI Forest

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking an Accounting Assistant who brings energy and accuracy to every task. In this role at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Forest, you will help keep financial processes running smoothly for the institution. Your work will support important inmate account activities while strengthening overall operations. This position offers a chance to grow your skills and make a direct impact each day.

This position provides clerical accounting support for inmate accounts within the SCI Forest Business Office. The work focuses on processing transactions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting financial activities. As an Accounting Assistant, you will perform the following duties:

  • Release Processing: Prepare release forms, issue notifications, manage account refunds, and maintain records
  • Payment Handling: Process payments for inmate purchases, service organizations, and Inmate General Welfare Fund (IGWF) activities
  • Cash Slip Review: Review and post inmate cash slips, ensure compliance with policies, and return disapproved slips for resolution
  • Account Transactions: Complete miscellaneous financial transactions and reconcile posting work and balances
  • Deposit Preparation: Receive funds and prepare deposits for IGWF enterprises and related activities
  • Account Assistance: Answer questions from inmates, families, and staff regarding account matters

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
