The Center for Women’s Biobehavioral Health Research (PI: Rebecca Thurston) is devoted to understanding and enhancing women’s health at midlife and beyond. The Center, located in Sterling Plaza, is within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. The Research Associate Sr plays a central role in the day-to-day  conduct of multiple studies at the Center. Studies include an industry sponsored clinical trial evaluating how a treatment for menopausal hot flashes may impact brain, cognitive, and vascular function in midlife women, and the Study of Women Across the Nation (SWAN) investigation, a longitudinal study generating nationally representative insights into women’s health and experience. The Research Associate Sr work on testing women in at least two studies including the SWAN study and the FAVES-B clinical trial. Both studies recruit women in menopause and measure multiple indices of health and wellness including cognitive functioning. This position will oversee a research specialist working on the same studies. They will trouble shoot research related problems for these two studies on a day-to-day basis.

This position is grant funded.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the day to day activities research studies on women’s health including an interventional clinical trial, including participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, and scheduling in accordance with protocol defined inclusion/exclusion criteria.

  • Administer protocol adherent execution of all study procedures, including laboratory testing, ambulatory/wearable monitoring, training on electronic diaries, administration of behavioral and neurocognitive assessments, and other study evaluations.

  • Process blood and related biological samples, including Venipuncture and blood collection from participants, preparation of study equipment and phlebotomy tubes, sample labeling, handling, storage, and transport to designated laboratories in compliance with protocol and safety requirements. 

  • Collaborate closely with investigators, study physician, study coordinator, pharmacists, laboratories, and other stakeholders to support efficient and compliant study execution.

  • Mentor, train and assist with supervising junior research staff as needed

  • Enter study data into databases.

  • Assist with preparation of scientific articles, IRB, and grant submissions as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology or related research field and 1 year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting

OR

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology or related research field and 3 years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
