You play an important part in assisting taxpayers and reviewing key information used across the state. This position provides tax examination and clerical functions at a remote office location at the Riverfront Office Center (a.k.a. “the ROC”) for DOR’s Bureau of Business Taxpayer Accounting (BBTA), Motor and Alternative Fuel Tax (MAFT) Division, External Account Clarification (EAC) Section. This position supports the Bureau of Business Taxpayer Accounting by reviewing applications, maintaining taxpayer records, and assisting with fuel tax credential processes. As a Tax Examiner 1, you will learn how to perform the following duties:
- Application Review: Receive and evaluate fuel tax applications and gather missing information when required
- Record Maintenance: Update account information based on correspondence and research findings
- Credential Processing: Sort, prepare, and mail licenses, registration cards, and related materials
- Tax Research: Check taxpayer records and filings to determine eligibility for decals and credentials
- Customer Assistance: Respond to inquiries and explain assessment reasons or application requirements
- Mail Handling: Research undeliverable mail, correct records, and redirect correspondence

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of general office work; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
