Join the Facilities Management team, a division of the University of Pittsburgh’s Business & Operations. As a University Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the safety, vitality, and quality of our campus facilities by supporting electrical design, project management, and the maintenance and operations of campus electrical infrastructure.
Facilities Management
Establishes design criteria for electrical systems and reviews plans and specifications to ensure cost-efficiency, effectiveness, and best practices. Provides electrical design and/or project management for assigned projects. Ensures contractor and trade compliance with all project details. Ascertains fiscal electrical system requirements and facilitates budgetary matters.
• work alongside fellow electrical engineers and report to the Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering, who also oversees a team of mechanical engineers and the Energy & Utilities group.
• Review construction documents and specifications for adherence to University Design Manual standards and relevant codes, and provide electrical design and/or project management on assigned projects.
• When assigned as Project Manager, lead all required pre-construction activities through bid walkthrough, including the Request for Proposal, contractor interviews, site walkthroughs, and design schedule and budget management. Following bidding, construction management transitions to the Office of Planning, Design, & Construction.
• Represent Facilities Management Engineering on comprehensive construction projects with electrical scope, supporting the University Project Manager with electrical-specific questions and document reviews.
• Support the maintenance and operation of low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems, power systems studies, life safety systems, lighting systems, and on-site standby power generation, and assist with the University’s e-meter system.
• Assist in the development and enforcement of electrical design standards, maintain accurate as-built documentation, and contribute to capital preservation planning for electrical infrastructure, fire alarm, elevators, and generators.
