  Full-Time Administrator on Duty (Rotating shifts)

Are you a dynamic healthcare professional ready to take on a leadership role in a fast-paced hospital environment? UPMC Presbyterian is seeking a Full-Time, rotating,  Administrator on Duty to join our team! This position offers a unique opportunity to support hospital operations and patient care coordination across all units.

As an Administrator on Duty, you will play a critical role in ensuring smooth hospital operations by coordinating patient admissions, discharges, and transfers. You’ll provide interim leadership, support staff, and serve as a key resource during off-hours, holidays, and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Support:
    Act as a representative of hospital administration, providing guidance and support to staff, patients, and families. Address and resolve operational issues and ensure safe staffing levels.
  • Patient Flow & Throughput:
    Oversee patient placement and collaborate with clinical teams to ensure efficient use of hospital resources and timely transitions of care.
  • Crisis Management:
    Respond to urgent situations with sound judgment and coordinate with appropriate departments such as Risk Management, Legal, and Patient Relations.
  • Mentorship & Development:
    Serve as a mentor and preceptor to nursing staff and students. Promote continuous learning and professional development.
  • Evidence-Based Practice:
    Utilize research and data to drive process improvements and enhance patient care outcomes.
    • Proven leadership experience in a healthcare setting
    • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
    • Ability to manage complex situations with professionalism and poise
    • Commitment to patient-centered care and staff support
  • BS/BSN required.
  • Masters preferred
  • If no Masters/DNP, must hold an approved national certification or Wolf Learning Academy certification.
  • Bachelors or higher must be in nursing.
  • Three years of experience with a minimum of one year of leadership experience such as the Clinician role or equivalent.
  • Must maintain a solid/strong performer rating on annual performance review
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    ACLS preferred. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
     
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
