The Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist position with the Department of Environmental Protection offers the chance to protect public health while supporting safe drinking water across the region. This position supports the Safe Drinking Water Program by reviewing compliance activities, preparing enforcement materials, guiding field personnel, and helping the regulated community understand drinking water rules. Your work helps protect public health by ensuring that public water systems meet environmental requirements. As a Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

• Compliance Assistance: Prepare educational materials, including newsletter articles, to help the regulated community understand safe drinking water rules and policies
• Training And Support: Provide technical guidance and training to field personnel, water system operators and the public regarding compliance requirements
• Enforcement Preparation: Review violations and prepare enforcement documents such as notices, orders and penalty assessments to address issues and corrective actions
• Case Documentation: Compile records, research case history and coordinate with legal staff to support prosecution and resolution of enforcement cases
• Compliance Monitoring: Track violations, penalties and schedules in program databases and generate reports that support compliance oversight
Program Evaluation: Review compliance efforts in assigned areas and draft recommendations for improving enforcement processes and outcomes

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will have the option to work from one of the following offices:
    • New Stanton District Office -  131 Broadview Road, New Stanton, PA 15672
    • Cambria District Office - 286 Industrial Park Road, Ebensburg, PA 15931
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirement: 

  • This position requires the possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
