The IT Asset Technician I is responsible for supporting enterprise IT asset management and depot operations by receiving, tracking, preparing, deploying, and recovering technology equipment throughout its lifecycle. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate inventory records, supporting employee technology deployments, and ensuring efficient shipping, receiving, and asset control processes. The technician works in a fast-paced onsite environment while delivering excellent internal customer service and maintaining compliance with established asset management procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and process incoming IT hardware, accessories, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using asset management systems.
- Perform asset tagging, inventory audits, reconciliations, and cycle counts.
- Verify received equipment against purchase orders, shipping documentation, and asset records.
- Prepare, package, and ship equipment to employees and regional office locations.
- Process returned assets and coordinate equipment recovery activities.
- Track shipments and maintain accurate shipping and delivery documentation.
- Configure, image, enroll, and prepare laptops, desktops, monitors, mobile devices, and peripherals for deployment.
- Install basic software and validate devices prior to distribution.
- Support new hire onboarding by preparing and deploying required technology.
- Stage equipment for office moves, refresh initiatives, and technology deployment projects.
- Organize and maintain depot storage areas, inventory locations, and workstations.
- Process retired equipment for redeployment, recycling, or disposal.
- Assist employees with equipment pickups, exchanges, returns, and workstation setup.
- Follow established inventory control procedures and escalate discrepancies or shortages.
- Support hardware refreshes, special projects, and other asset lifecycle activities as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Information Technology or a related field preferred.
- 0–2 years of experience in IT support, asset management, inventory control, warehouse operations, or a related technical environment.
- Experience supporting computer hardware deployment, inventory management, or shipping and receiving is preferred.
- Experience working within an IT asset management or service desk environment is a plus.
Special Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to work full-time onsite within a warehouse, depot, and office environment.
- Availability to work overtime based on business needs, onboarding activities, asset refresh projects, or other operational requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, peripherals, and mobile devices.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows workstation setup and configuration.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of IT asset management practices and inventory control procedures.
- Familiarity with barcode scanners, inventory management systems, or shipping platforms is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately.
