Join the 4B Ortho Surgery team at UPMC St. Margaret! We're looking for compassionate, motivated Patient Care Technicians who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and making a difference in patients' lives. This full-time position includes rotating weekdays and weekends, with our busiest OR days typically Tuesday through Thursday. Candidates can work 12-hour day shifts (6:30 AM–6:30 PM) or 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM–6:30 AM), and we're also interested in speaking with candidates who would prefer an 8-hour night shift schedule from 10:30 PM–6:30 AM.  If you're looking for a supportive team, opportunities to grow, and meaningful patient care experience, we'd love to connect with you!
The Patient Care Technician is a valued step in UPMCs Patient Care Support Career Ladder. The final candidate will be placed in the appropriate title and pay rate depending on education and experience

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with patient procedures and daily living activities.
  • Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
  • Provide feedback to the RN and report changes in patient status.
  • Perform core nursing assistant tasks (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and at least four of the following: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and communicate effectively with other departments.
  • Contribute to unit activities (responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients).
  • Receive and act on feedback, identify learning needs, and participate in self-review.
  • Provide patient and family instruction under RN direction; apply, monitor, and remove restraints as needed.
  • Adhere to all patient care policies and safety procedures.
  • Document in medical records and perform clerical functions as needed.
  • Support department projects and quality initiatives.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must also have either
a) 1 Year of general healthcare experience, OR
b) 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion for those with less than 1 year of experience, OR
c) enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR
d) completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
• Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class
• Successful completion of eRecord training.
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire ACLS preferred
 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
