The Law Firm of Tara A. Scully, P.C., located in Port Jefferson, New York practices primarily focused on estate planning, elder law, asset protection, Medicaid planning, guardianships, special needs planning, and estate and trust administration. We are looking for an experienced Elder Law & Estate Planning Attorney who enjoys meaningful client contact, takes ownership of matters, and wants to build a long-term practice in a collaborative, client-centered environment. This onsite role offers the opportunity to manage estate planning, probate, trust administration, guardianship, and related Surrogate’s Court matters from start to finish while working closely with clients, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and professional advisors.

 What You’ll Do

      Manage probate, administration, guardianship, and related Surrogate’s Court matters from initial filing through resolution

      Draft, review and execute wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, special needs trusts, powers of attorney, health care proxies, and related estate planning documents

      Advise clients on estate planning, wealth transfer, asset protection, Medicaid planning, and practical strategies aligned with their goals

      Handle estate and trust administration, including asset collection, creditor notices, fiduciary accountings, distributions, and closing procedures

      Prepare petitions, citations, waivers, affidavits, orders, accountings, and other court filings accurately and on deadline

      Assist with contested estate and guardianship matters, including discovery support, objections, motion practice support, and coordination with counsel

      Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, court personnel, family members, medical professionals, and advisors

What We’re Looking For

      Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active New York State license in good standing

      At least one year of experience in estate planning, estate administration, probate, elder law, guardianships, or related trusts and estates work

      Experience appearing in Surrogate’s Court or handling court-facing estate or guardianship matters

      Strong drafting, analytical, organizational, and client communication skills

      Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters independently

      A professional, empathetic, and client-centered approach when working with families during sensitive circumstances

      Experience with contested matters or estate and fiduciary tax filings is helpful but not required

 Compensation & Benefits

      Salary range: $120,000 to $140,000, commensurate with experience
