This position plays a key part in preparing, organizing, and supporting unemployment compensation appeal hearings form start to finish. Work involves detailed review, careful coordination, and consistent communication with all involved parties. As a Legal Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties: 

  • Hearing Preparation: Review incoming appeals case work items to determine proper routing, location and type of hearing; organize case files and exhibits; and associate dockets based on claim type and issues of law
  • Scheduling Coordination: Prepare hearing notices for timely distribution; schedule, adjust, and reschedule times based on multiple variables to help Referees ensure due process, accessibility, and adherence to all other regulations and parameters
  • Document Processing: Receive and distribute documents; ensure documents are sent timely, accessible, and available for all parties at all hearing types; transcribe recorded dictation of decisions from Referees; prepare, format, proofread, and verify data for a variety of legal documents
  • Public Contact: Respond to phone calls, emails, and in-person visitors; provide accurate and tactful responses about substantive and procedural matters
  • Record Management: Upload recorded herrings, maintain electronic and paper case files, input data into automated computer tracking systems
  • Office Support: Perform other office support functions including legal research, ordering supplies, and timekeeping tasks to help keep operations running smoothly

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours may be negotiable 
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successful completion of training. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes Barre. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Legal Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or 
  • Four years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including one year of legal clerical support experience; or 
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training. 

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
