This position supports forestry staff by carrying out technical fieldwork that strengthens forest habitat across State Game Lands. Your work focuses on activities that promote healthy young forests within the region. As a Forest Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Timber Marking: Survey boundaries, identify trees, and compute timber volumes according to the forester's instructions
  • Field Data Collection: Assist with gathering and entering stand data, sale layout information, and other forestry observations
  • GPS Mapping: Collect GPS data and produce maps that support habitat management decisions
  • Habitat Maintenance: Support herbicide applications and maintain tools and equipment used in forest habitat work
  • Fire Support: Assist with wildland and prescribed fire activities and complete required training for certification

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate’s degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry. 
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
