This position focuses on repairing, maintaining, and inspecting a fleet of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment used in transportation operations. The work supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of vehicles and machinery across the county. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Repair: Repair cars, trucks, tractors, loaders, and other equipment to keep them in proper working condition
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform diagnostics, tune-ups, system checks, and routine servicing on engines and components
- State Inspections: Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete all required documentation
- Equipment Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine appropriate repair methods
- Safety Practices: Maintain a safe work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries or hazards immediately
- Field Adjustments: Make on-site adjustments and minor repairs to support safe and efficient equipment operation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in (LOCATION). The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. - Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
- This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).
