This position supports pavement marking operations and seasonal maintenance work across District 9. It involves operating paint crew equipment, performing routine adjustments, and assisting with winter duties. As a PennDOT CDL Operator, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Preparation: Ready painting equipment each day by loading supplies, checking calibration, and ensuring proper fuel levels
- Painting Operations: Operate and monitor painting equipment to apply correct line widths, colors, bead distribution, and placement
- Heavy Equipment: Operate assigned machinery such as loaders, plows, mowers, rollers, or similar equipment as certified
- Routine Maintenance: Complete pre- and post-operation checks, perform minor repairs, and assist mechanics with larger repairs
- Manual Tasks: Use hand and power tools for roadwork, grounds tasks, and general maintenance activities
- Safety Compliance: Follow safety procedures, use protective equipment, and report hazards or incidents immediately

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position requires overtime
- Hours will vary in Winter, Paint Crew Summer work is by union agreement
- April–December: Assigned to District 9 Paint Crew based at the Hollidaysburg Shed in Blair County
- December–March: Assigned to a District 9 winter stockpile in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, or Somerset County if residence is within a District 9 County
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. This position requires that the Manual Transmission (E) Restriction is removed.
- This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) and Hazardous Materials (H) Endorsement during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
- Certain employees may require additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
- This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
Additional Requirement:
- Willing and able to work unannounced overtime.
- Willing and able to repair industrial type equipment (pumps, paint and bead guns, other painting related equipment).
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
