The Corrections Food Service Instructor role with the Department of Corrections,  Training Academy offers a chance to guide and support inmates as they learn valuable culinary skills. This position focuses on leading and guiding inmates through food preparation tasks while maintaining safety and security in all food service areas. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Security Enforcement: Enforce custody rules and maintain control in all food service areas
  • Task Coordination: Assign and review food preparation, production, and service tasks performed by inmates
  • Skill Instruction: Instruct inmates in food preparation techniques and proper kitchen practices
  • Safety Oversight: Inspect equipment and work areas to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
  • Meal Quality Control: Monitor food portions, temperatures, and presentation to meet quality standards
  • Supply Management: Check stock, rotate items, and report supply needs or equipment concerns

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
