UPMC Magee is currently hiring a fulltime Lead Pharmacist to join our team. This position will work with the Operations Manager. This position will work primarily Monday-Friday daylight.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacist to join our team in a specialized role focused on medication inventory management, drug shortage mitigation, and advancement of pharmacy technology. This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted medication use across the organization by integrating clinical expertise with operational excellence.

The ideal candidate will lead efforts to optimize drug inventory processes, proactively manage and respond to drug shortages, and collaborate closely with clinical and operational teams to develop sustainable solutions that minimize patient care impact. In addition, this pharmacist will serve as a key contributor to the ongoing enhancement of pharmacy automation systems and electronic health record (EHR) functionality, supporting system optimization, workflow efficiency, and medication safety initiatives.

Experience with inventory management and automation is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop workflow guidelines and other tools (assignment sheets, scheduling, etc.) necessary to maximize productivity and standardize practices in the practice area.
  • Facilitate the development and completion of quality improvement and/or cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with pharmacy, nursing, medical staff and other departments.
  • Consult with pharmacy leadership to discuss recommendations and issues as appropriate.

  • Ensure adequate inventory of medications and supplies necessary for patient care.
  • Assist in the procurement of drug inventory and supplies as needed by following established procedures.
  • Participate in recalls and shortage mitigation plans including implementation and monitoring.
  • Maintain professional competency through participation in continuing education and staff development programs.

  • Implement and uphold Executive Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee decisions with appropriate escalation through the leadership chain if needed.
  • Provide oversight for controlled substance processes. 
  • Provide on-site automation oversight and support. 
  • Participate in the electronic heath record conversion 
  • Meet salary, drug and purchased services budgets with variances explained and justified.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and quality in area of responsibility. Lead by example for customer service and resolve customer relations issues for the pharmacy.
  • Ensure accurate billing of claims and services and troubleshoot billing and patient charge issues.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Minimum of 3 years post-licensure experience.
