The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a pre-health advisor for the Pre-Health Resource Center. The Center serves a large and diverse student population primarily composed of undergraduate students, but may also include graduate students and Pitt alumni, who aspire to careers in health care, health sciences, and health policy.

The team of advisors in the Center provide information, support, and guidance as students explore career options; develop competitive portfolios of educational, experiential, and extra-curricular experiences; hone interview skills; and prepare applications to graduate or graduate professional educational programs. The position provides the opportunity work in a new and growing campus unit with varied concurrent roles ranging from working 1:1 with students to presenting to small and large groups of students, and presenting to large groups of potential applicants and their families.

Minimum of 1 year providing developmental advising to diverse student and/or alumni populations, preferably in health care, health sciences, or health policy. Experience guiding student development of applications for professional and/or graduate program admission. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and presentation skills.

Utilizes basic advising knowledge, theory, and practical experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Manages small, routine projects.

The position is responsible for advising students about the requirements of health professional schools; developing academic and career plans and timelines; exploring healthcare careers; identifying experiential learning opportunities in clinical, research, and community service areas; and helping students develop competitive applications for health professional schools through providing feedback on application materials, mock interviews, and consultation throughout the application process.  

Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
