The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a highly qualified Microsoft Infrastructure Specialist to design, implement, and maintain a hybrid Microsoft enterprise environment. This role serves as the subject matter expert for identity, authentication, and messaging services, ensuring secure access and seamless communication for a large and diverse user population.  Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead administration of Exchange Server (Hybrid) and Exchange Online, including mail flow, transport rules, and policy management

  • Design, implement, and maintain a highly available Active Directory environment (Domain Controllers, DNS, Group Policy)

  • Manage Microsoft Entra ID, including Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and hybrid identity configurations

  • Support Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) and Web Application Proxy for Single Sign-On (SSO)

  • Oversee Identity & Access Management (IAM) using Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) and Azure AD Connect

  • Design and manage Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Certificate Services, including certificate lifecycle management

  • Implement and maintain security best practices across the Microsoft ecosystem

  • Develop and maintain PowerShell-based automation for operational efficiency and reporting

  • Serve as an escalation point, provide technical leadership, and mentor team members

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing Microsoft enterprise infrastructure in a hybrid environment

  • Strong expertise in Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange, and authentication protocols (LDAP, Kerberos, NTLM)

  • Experience with IAM solutions, federation services, and PKI/certificate management

  • Advanced PowerShell scripting skills

  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and drive continuous improvement

Preferred qualifications:  Microsoft certifications (Azure Administrator, Identity & Access Administrator, Messaging); experience in -  higher ed, healthcare, or large enterprise environments; security & compliance in Microsoft platforms; supporting large-scale hybrid identity deployments with high availability & disaster recovery planning

Installs, configures, and maintains systems and associated infrastructure at the enterprise level. Assists in designing architecture and planning deployment of complex servers and associated infrastructure. Evaluates and recommends effective tools for system and infrastructure maintenance and support. Architects and evaluates system enhancements to be implemented and serves as escalation and a top-tier point of contact for complex installation and upgrades.

Working with PC related hardware equipment, software applications and telephony video conferencing systems. Written and verbal communication.  Interpersonal relations.  Analyzing and organizing information.  Planning and leadership skills.  Proficient knowledge of IT. 

Generally sedentary desk work with computer-keyboard-video phone other than traveling to other buildings on campus for meetings/events on occasion.  Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.  On rare occasions, may need to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
