UPMC Presbyterian Hospital is currently hiring a full-time Clinical Exercise Physiologist to join our team!
The Clinical Exercise Physiologist works in either or both inpatient and outpatient settings. Reviews patient's charts and medical histories, performs initial assessments, develops treatment plans, administers exercise modalities, evaluates progress, and documents outcomes on patients in order to increase/improve overall functioning through exercise modalities and education. For most inpatients, to offset the detrimental effects of inactivity. Educate on disease states, recovery, smoking cessation and risk factor modifications. Maintains open communications with coworkers, physicians and other dept staff. Coordinates day to day workflow and direct subordinate staff to accomplish the days work. Develop and present periodic in-services to staff on new or established clinical practice. Provide leadership to subordinate staff by teaching and assisting with orientation and being a resource when needed to clarify and provide judgment for less experienced staff when needed. Assists Department Manager in reviewing policies and procedures, developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives, and helping in many ways to extend the reach and impact of the program.
Responsibilities:
Completes evaluation and assessment of patients with accurate and adequate documentation
Developments and documents individualized patient treatment plan, accurate with respect to patient's age and medical history, its implementation and monitoring of progress and modifications as indicated.
Develops inpatient discharge plan and/or outpatient discharge plan with transition to either Phase III CPR or home/community fitness program. Inpatient plan includes recommendation to Phase II CPR as indicated. Outpatient CPRSs will see that progress toward goals at discharge is clearly and effectively communicated to patient and physician.
May conduct a variety of non-invasive cardiology testing including but not limited to 12 Lead EKGs, pacer clinics technical work, Holter monitoring hook ups and processing, and stress testing.
Prepares for and responds to emergencies in a manner consistent with department guidelines
Demonstrates annual competencies as required by department
Utilization of clinical support staff (training, supervision and delegation) in a manner that both verbally and non-verbally promotes respect, confidence and a team atmosphere.
Participation in the Co-Worker Feedback program if asked
Promotes effective communication and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork within the department, the hospital and to other health care professionals.
Conducts, organizes, and participates in meetings, inservices and continuing education.
Plays an active role in developing, implementing, and gathering outcome data for the annual quality improvement initiative.
Upon request by Manager, assists with staff development, orientation of new staff, special projects and community programs.
- Graduate of an accredited Exercise Physiology or related program with a minimum Master’s degree and 300 hours of clinical internship experience.
OR
- Graduate of an accredited Exercise Physiology or related program with a minimum Bachelor’s degree and 10 years’ experience
OR
- Graduate of an accredited Exercise Physiology or related program with a minimum Bachelor’s degree, 5 years recent experience and ACSM-CEP or related Certification.
- Active membership in professional organization and ACSM CEP Certification preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- BLS and ACLS or a willingness to acquire both is required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. ACSM CEP, RCEP or related certification is preferred.
