As a Wildlife Habitat Group Manager with the Pennsylvania Game Commission - Southcentral Region, you will help shape healthy environments for a variety of species. This role blends leadership, fieldwork, and long-term planning in order to guide projects that improve habitats and support safe land use. This position offers meaningful work that strengthens Pennsylvania’s natural resources!

In this role, your work focuses on planning, directing, and reviewing habitat projects, land management activities, and staff operations within the Southcentral Region. As a Wildlife Habitat Group Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Project Oversight: Plan and supervise habitat work, maintenance activities, and construction across assigned lands
  • Staff Leadership: Guide crew operations, review reports, and ensure compliance with standards and procedures
  • Land Management: Coordinate surveys, property research, and land acquisition reviews for game lands
  • Environmental Coordination: Work with forestry staff, engineers, and agencies on reclamation, timber activities, and habitat planning
  • Compliance Monitoring: Inspect facilities, oversee licensing requirements, and ensure safe handling of chemicals and equipment
  • Record Administration: Maintain documentation, prepare summaries, and manage budget and purchasing activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered within Perry County and parts of Juniata and Snyder County. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional natural resource management experience; and a bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, parks and recreation, biology, forestry, ecology, geosciences, environmental sciences, wildlife management, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • You must obtain a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator certification within the employee probationary period.
  • You must successfully complete Wildland Type 2 Firefighter (FFT2) training, including successfully completing a Moderate (or Arduous) level Work Capacity Test (WCT) within the employee probationary period.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must reside within Perry County or within specific eligible areas of Juniata and Snyder Counties.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
