Position Summary

Chatham University welcomes applications for the position of Interim Coordinator, Student Engagement and Leadership in our Student Affairs Department.

The Interim Coordinator for Student Engagement and Leadership will provide immediate, short-term oversight and execution of student leadership initiatives that foster student engagement, support student well-being, and promote engaged citizenship across all campus locations. This temporary role requires a high-energy, positive professional who can step in seamlessly to maintain momentum to support student leadership, success and retention, and deliver a diverse array of established student affairs programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Leadership Development:

  • Serve as a facilitator of cross-divisional leadership initiatives including student leader recruitment, selection, and training, the Student Leader Kickoff, and on-going Student Affairs student employee professional development.

  • Coordinate student engagement and team-building retreats, and other leadership workshops/facilitations upon request. Assist with consultation process for leadership facilitation/retreat services.

  • Coordinate the Graduate Student Assembly.

  • Co-Facilitate service-learning and community engagement experiences for student groups and leaders.

Support for broad Student Engagement initiatives:

  • Student organization support and planning of night/weekend programming.

  • Contribute to the execution of larger campus events including new student orientation, homecoming, and other campus events as needed.

Support for the broader Division of Student Affairs:

  • Support emotional wellbeing and mental health programming, including awareness and prevention activities

  • Integrate wellbeing and/or mental health into Student Engagement Leadership and programs.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as requested and assigned by Assistant Deans and Dean of Students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required), Master’s Degree (preferred) with some experience in residence life, student development, and/or campus activities.

  • Comprehensive understanding, appreciation, and support of student life at a small, private institution and a commitment to improving the lives of students.

  • Sound judgment, tolerance for ambiguity in diverse situations, and commitment to the student affairs profession.

  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, antiracism, and the ability to foster inclusive communities.

  • Ability to embrace and support a culture of collegiality, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and demonstrated understanding of, and a strong commitment to, customer service and a student-centered experience.

  • Experience in event planning and program oversight.

  • Experience working successfully with departments within student affairs and the campus at large to assist with activities, programs, and services for undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Have acquired knowledge, experiences, and sound judgment in student development, program/project management, crises management, counseling students and/or conversing with parents and families.

  • Excellent organizational, oral, written, and on-line communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask, meet established deadlines, and demonstrate initiative and flexibility.

  • High emotional intelligence, maturity, and interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.

Salary Range: 

$22.00/hour 35-hour work week.
