The Associate Teacher supports the Head Teacher in the planning and the implementation of an early childhood program for a class of children. Associate Techers are responsible for supporting the Head Teacher in maintaining the classroom, assessing and maintaining care, programming for the classroom, and ensuring the safety of all children. Associate Teachers act as the Head Teacher in that teacher’s absence, supervise staff and University students and respond to parent/guardian inquiries and needs. Associate Teachers are required to maintain 12 hours of professional development annually during their employment and maintain all DHS regulations, NAEYC standards and Keystone STARS requirements throughout their employment.
Supports head and associate teachers in a child development center. Prepares fine and gross motor activities for effective child development. Maintains a safe classroom conducive to learning and engagement. Guides student and temporary workers.

The work involves occasional, and at times sustained performance of heavier physical tasks such as traversing over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, traversing space quickly, and lifting and/or carrying 40-pound children. Work exposes the employee to potentially non disabling injuries or illnesses. Duties require regular exposure to the outside. Bloodborne and airborne pathogens present a potential hazard.
