The Highway Sign Worker position with the Department of Transportation offers the chance to help keep local roads safe for all travelers. This position supports safe roads by installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and related structures. The work includes hands-on labor, tool use, environmental awareness, and direct support of county maintenance operations. As a Highway Sign Worker, you will perform the following duties:
- Sign Installation: Install and maintain highway signs using correct placement tools and procedures
- Field Maintenance: Replace damaged signs, clear brush, and paint structures to support safe roadways
- Tool Operation: Operate and care for hand tools and light power equipment used in daily tasks
- Environmental Compliance: Follow environmental requirements outlined in training and district guidelines
- Customer Service: Support quality service through teamwork, communication, and problem solving
- Trade Practices: Perform maintenance tasks that follow standard practices and require sound judgment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Travel, overtime, and shift work required.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a painter's helper or other work leading to journeyman skills in sign painting; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
