The Department of Surgery seeks to establish a new Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Technician position to support the growing scope and complexity of its genomics and human‑sample–driven research programs. This role will provide technical expertise in genomics workflows including qPCR, single‑cell work, single‑cell library creation, next‑generation sequencing library preparation, and data quality control, as well as upstream processes such as PBMC and plasma isolation. The NGS Technician will support multiple investigators and collaborative projects, manage and track human sample inventories, and coordinate with institutional resources such as MACRO to secure human biospecimens in compliance with approved protocols. By standardizing best practices, improving data quality and reproducibility, and strengthening operational capacity, this position will play a critical role in advancing high‑priority translational research initiatives within the department. 

The Department of Surgery conducts interdisciplinary, human‑sample–driven research focused on advancing basic, translational and clinical science. Research activities increasingly incorporate next‑generation sequencing, single‑cell approaches, and integrated genomics pipelines that require specialized technical expertise and rigorous sample management practices. Hands-on experience with single-cell hashtagging techniques is highly preferred. 

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
