The O’Sullivan Lab at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center conducts research on telomere function in human cancer cells. The research emphasizes alterations in chromatin structure and DNA repair pathways. Common research methodologies applied include fluorescence microscopy, protein expression analysis, DNA preparation and analyses, cell culture and cellular manipulation.
The Research Technician should have training and a solid foundation in basic laboratory techniques and experience with techniques associated with the following specific areas: molecular biology; flow cytometry; Immunobiochemistry; and cell culture. The Research Technician will be capable of exercising independent judgment while participating in the planning of experiments and evaluating and interpreting results.
Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.
Performs laboratory procedures and tests; analyzes and interprets the results.
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time.
