As a Maintenance Repairman 2 with the Department of Transportation, you will take on meaningful work maintaining Pennsylvania’s road structures, bridges, equipment, and machinery. With our Erie County Maintenance Organization, your efforts will support safe travel by keeping our infrastructure in top condition. This position focuses on maintaining and repairing structures, bridges, equipment, and machinery in order to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Your role will rely on teamwork and good communication to complete a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled tasks utilizing several trades at the journeyman level. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform the following duties:


  • Structural Maintenance: Perform repairs to bridges, drainage structures, and related roadway structures and features using knowledge and abilities with welding, masonry, and other trades
  • Equipment Operation: Operate construction tools and machinery such as welders, saws, compressors, power tools, forklifts, bucket trucks, and a wide variety of other power and pneumatic tools
  • Carpentry Tasks: Build or repair shelves, partitions, ceilings, floors, and other building features
  • Electrical Work: Install or update lighting, outlets, wiring, and related electrical components
  • Plumbing and HVAC: Maintain and replace fixtures, pipes, drains, and other plumbing fixtures; perform normal maintenance and minor adjustments on HVAC systems in maintenance sheds
  • Safety and Teamwork: Follow safety procedures, use protective equipment, and maintain orderly work areas; communicate with supervisor and teammates about work in progress and safety needs 

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or 
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or 
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirement: 

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have experience with roofing and siding.
  • You must have landscaping experience.
  • You must have experience following general safety guidelines.
  • You must have experience performing carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks.
  • You must have experience with general maintenance and tools.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Previous experience painting, performing drywall and plaster tasks
  • Previous experience installing, repairing, or removing flooring
  • Previous cost estimation experience
  • Previous experience reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, or diagrams
  • Previous welding experience
