The Maintenance Repairman 2 position with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center offers a hands-on role that keeps the facility running at its best. This role gives you the chance to use carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance skills across many areas of the center. You will stay active, solve problems, and help create a comfortable environment for veterans, their spouses, staff, and visitors. This position supports the daily operation of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center by completing repairs, maintenance tasks, and grounds work across the facility. It utilizes skill in several trades, attention to safety rules, and the ability to respond to maintenance needs as they arise. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Carpentry Tasks: Repair doors, frames, furniture, and partitions using both hand and power tools
  • Electrical Work: Install circuits, outlets, and fixtures and repair motors, lighting, and related equipment
  • Plumbing Repairs: Fix and install plumbing fixtures, open clogged drains, and cut pipe for water and steam lines
  • Climate Control: Service heating and air conditioning units and repair steam heating and cooking equipment
  • General Repairs: Perform masonry, roofing, painting, and minor equipment repairs throughout the facility
  • Grounds Care: Maintain lawns, trim trees and shrubs, remove snow, and keep outdoor areas clean and free of debris

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. 
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirement:
  • You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.


Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness and ability to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania
  • Experience in commercial maintenance of buildings and equipment
  • Experience in plumbing repairs
  • Experience in electrical repairs
  • Completion of any formal training (high school vocational program, apprenticeship, or post-high school technical training program) in a skilled building, electrical, or mechanical trade

Legal Requirements: 

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
