The Bureau of Enforcement and Taxpayer Assistance (BETA) is looking for a Field Enforcement Agent 1 who is ready for an exciting and purposeful career. This position focus on developing your investigative abilities while supporting the enforcement of tax laws. This blends fieldwork, documentation, and professional collaboration to help ensure compliance and fairness. As a Field Enforcement Agent 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Support Investigations: Observe and assist experience agents with investigations of businesses and individuals 
  • Gather Evidence: Help conduct searches, surveillance, and interviews and review records to identify and document suspected violations
  • Compliance Checks: Canvas areas to find unregistered businesses, assist with road details, and participate in other fieldwork
  • Analyze Findings: Learn to determine the total amount an individual or business owes, their ability to pay, and identify actions needed based on evidence and requirements  
  • Enforcement Activities: Observe and assist with preparing investigative reports for potential legal action and implementing collection techniques, payment plans, and procedures
  • Taxpayer Interaction: Communicate with taxpayers, businesses, and agencies to gather information, provide education to encourage voluntary compliance, and support enforcement efforts

 Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or 
  • Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or 
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must reside in Allegheny County. Relocation is not an option.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: 

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
  • You must meet eligibility qualifiers for CLEAN access (Criminal convictions may limit ability for employment).
