This position trains you in the support of safe and efficient highway and bridge maintenance across the Commonwealth. It involves operating equipment and performing manual tasks that help keep roadways clear, strong, and reliable. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Operation: Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery to support highway and bridge maintenance work
- Snow Removal: Clear snow and ice from roads and bridges during winter operations using plow attachments and related equipment
- Traffic Control: Perform flagger duties to guide traffic safely when equipment is in use or work zones are active
- Manual Labor Tasks: Use hand tools and power tools to complete tasks such as cutting brush, cleaning culverts, repairing signs, and maintaining barriers
- Equipment Care: Make field adjustments, complete minor repairs, and clean and service equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Safety Practices: Follow all safety procedures, use protective equipment, report hazards, and help maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This is subject to change due weather conditions or season change.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,526.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:
- You must possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent
- All employees must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
- All positions require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work.
- This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
