UPMC Corporate Facilities Maintenance and Engineering is hiring a Command Center System Technician, Associate to join our team!  This role will work varied days, which include weekends and holidays.  The position will be an overnight shift position.  At times, the position could require travel to other UPMC Facilities as needed.

The Command Center System Technician will be supervising and monitoring building environmental systems to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, students and team member in all UPMC Corporate system facilities infrastructures. The role will serve as redundancy for coordinate activities of city fire, police departments, and/or other local government official with UPMC staff during emergencies.

Responsibilities:
 

  • Provide support of 24/7/365 surveillance of and trouble shoot failures of building systems, fire systems, safety systems and climate control systems through data displays in the command center. 
  • Collaborate and communicate with the engineers in the field to resolve failures immediately. Consult and coordinate with security, dispatch, and facilities member in non-routine situations
  • Serve as communication liaison between UPMC on-call and dispatch team, city fire, police, and contractors during emergencies and/or when unresolved problems arise. Recommend corrective action when appropriate through UPMC Facilities work order system.
  • Evaluate conflicting information, document, and initiate action to resolve in timely manner
  • Serve as a redundancy for maintaining trends or data to meet compliance requirements. Advise UPMC system facilities compliance team on adverse trends and potential problems. Recommend corrective action and notify the appropriate personnel when out of compliance.
  • Maintain the data integrity such as logs and records related to compliance.
  • Initiate work orders for repairs found necessary during routine activities. Open the work orders through UPMC Facilities work order system.
  • Troubleshoot and perform operational checks of infrastructure systems through fault detection diagnostic, including but not limited to building automation system, pneumatic tube system, and others. 
  • Work closely with the engineers on the installation and programming of building systems during any construction projects.
  • Use software engineering tools and a thorough understanding of HVAC systems to service the programmable controllers.
  • Present knowledge of all emergency procedures. Advise UPMC team in following these procedures.
  • High School diploma required. 
  • Apprenticeship and/or trade school training in electrical or mechanical maintenance preferred. 
  • HVAC background preferred. 
  • Four (4) years of experience in maintenance required. 
  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred 
  • One (1) year experience in a supervisory position preferred. 
  • Knowledge of standard fire safety systems and emergency procedures. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of direct digital building systems control. Ability to quickly analyze problems and initiate corrective action in an emergency.
  • Knowledge of BACnet control systems required. 
  • Knowledge of Siemens, Automated Logic, and Voltec Control System and Swisslog Pneumatic Tube System a plus. 
  • Strong computer and analytical skills preferred. 
  • Ability to interpret or read the blue print.
