Position: Full-Time Nursing Assistant
Department: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Location: UPMC Passavant
Shifts: 40 hours per week; Primarily 7AM - 5:30PM schedule; NO overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts required!
Career Ladder: Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:
- Care Attendant: $18.19
- Nursing Assistant: $18.59
- Patient Care Technician: $18.99
Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including ADLs, vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, and specimen collection
- Assist with daily patient and unit needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and basic activities)
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient environment, following infection control and safety protocols
- Monitor patients and report changes, concerns, or equipment malfunctions promptly
- Document care accurately and complete clerical duties as needed
- Support unit operations by obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
- Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, accepting feedback, and seeking opportunities for growth
- Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or companionship as appropriate

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program
- Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure/Certification/Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire
- Act 34 Criminal Clearance
