Department: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) 
Location: UPMC Passavant
Shifts: 40 hours per week; typically 4 10-hour shifts; NO overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts required!Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:
  • Care Attendant: $18.19
  • Nursing Assistant: $18.59
  • Patient Care Technician: $18.99
  • Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19
     
Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced patient care under RN direction, including ADLs, procedures, therapies, and patient monitoring
  • Perform all core PCT competencies, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, specimen collection, EKGs, bladder scans, dressings, catheter removal, and restraint application per protocol
  • Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring), including transport of cardiac monitored patients
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
  • Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
  • Document care accurately and complete clerical functions as needed
  • Support unit operations and quality initiatives, including participation in projects and department activities
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
  • Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, taking ownership of assignments, and supporting team performance and improvement efforts
  • Provide patient and family education under RN direction and respond to emergent situations as appropriate

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One of the following:
    • Two years of healthcare experience
    • One year of healthcare experience and enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, or related healthcare program with at least one completed clinical rotation
    • One year of healthcare experience and a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field
  • Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training
  • Completion of basic information systems training
  • Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course with ongoing annual competency
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Completion of an annual professional contribution (assigned after hire)
  • May transport medications between departments; limited to transport only

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:
 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
