The UPMC Corporate Benefits department is searching for a Benefits Specialist to join the team. This is a regular, full-time position that operates during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, in a hybrid work model.
As a Benefits Specialist, you will engage in the technical and specialized administration of health and welfare benefits via the HR Direct Human Resource Information System. You will interpret and ensure compliance with the administration of UPMC employer benefits in accordance with the Summary Plan Description, any applicable contractual arrangements and corporate policy. This role involves numerous backend tasks that focus on data integrity, reporting efforts, and resolving discrepancies. You will also interact with our shared services partners and employees at all levels in the organization.

Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the company's benefits programs via the Human Resource Information System. Perform tasks related to administrative benefit programs such as medical dental, (IRS Section 125), COBRA, FMLA, disability, life insurance, and other associated benefits as available for 90,000 employees.
- Utilize HR Direct to generate administrative reports related to benefit deductions, eligibility, enrollments, confirmations, event maintenance, plan statistics, etc. Apply knowledge of system when researching and correcting system errors.
- Assist in the design and administration of health and welfare plans.
- Take part in major projects in the benefits area to redesign current programs, processes, and recommendations of new programs. Revise programs currently being used to ensure program compliance with legal requirements.
- Identify benefit plan design needs and works with broker and vendors on improvement and/or addition of benefit plans.
- Assist in cost analysis for adding or changing benefit plans and/or contribution strategies.
- Process and pay monthly/quarterly benefit invoices. Coordinate with TPA/Accounting/Payroll to ensure premiums paid are accurate and timely
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required and three years of experience in employee benefits and/or retirement required.
- OR High School Diploma/GED and five years of experience in employee benefits and/or retirement required.
- Thorough knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems, specifically HR Direct, customer relationship management tools, COBRA administration and tuition reimbursement/advancement required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) preferred.
