As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 2 with the Department of Corrections, you become part of a team dedicated to guiding meaningful rehabilitation. This role allows you to lead structured treatment programs that encourage growth and positive decision making. This role at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy focuses on providing counseling, treatment support, and structured programming to individuals working to overcome substance use challenges. You will guide group sessions, maintain accurate records, and coordinate resources that support rehabilitation. As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Facilitation: Lead therapeutic community and outpatient treatment groups using established curricula
  • Case File Management: Maintain detailed case histories and treatment plans for assigned individuals
  • Counseling Services: Conduct individual and group counseling sessions in line with policies and procedures
  • Assessment Duties: Complete assessments and make informed recommendations based on departmental guidelines
  • Support Meetings: Oversee voluntary recovery meetings and manage related enrollment and attendance
  • Training Assistance: Provide guidance to new staff and participate in required training to maintain skills

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63,301.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of para-professional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"; or
  • One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 credits in the behavioral sciences; or
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a master's degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.
Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
