Civil Engineer (Transportation)

The Civil Engineer (Transportation) with the Department of Transportation plays an important part in keeping transportation systems safe and efficient. This position supports transportation operations by applying engineering principles to reviews, analyses, and coordination activities across District 6. The role helps ensure that designs, permits, and studies meet required standards and support safe and efficient travel. As a Civil Engineer (Transportation), you will perform the following duties:

• Engineering Reviews: Evaluate plans, studies, designs, and permits for compliance with standards and policies
• Technical Analysis: Conduct traffic studies, operational reviews, and field investigations using engineering tools
• Program Support: Assist with maintenance and management of databases, inventories, and operational programs
• Project Coordination: Communicate with municipalities, consultants, contractors, and internal units on project needs
• Public Response: Investigate inquiries and provide technical guidance on transportation and safety concerns
• Training Development: Participate in training and support knowledge sharing for staff and trainees

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
• One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
