Begin a strong and purposeful career as a Corrections Officer 3 with the Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette. This position gives you the opportunity to lead teams and oversee critical operations that keep the institution running with discipline and consistency. You will guide daily routines, manage complex situations, and uphold the standards that support order within the facility. Your leadership will reinforce stability and strengthen the institution’s mission.
This position functions as a Lieutenant responsible for leading officers and coordinating the smooth operation of the institution. Duties include overseeing daily routines, verifying that inmate activities are properly supervised, and upholding the level of control expected within a correctional environment. Strong leadership is essential to maintain order, consistency, and structure. As a Corrections Officer 3, you will perform the following duties:
  • Staff Supervision: Direct subordinate officers, assign duties, provide training, and ensure compliance with policies
  • Facility Oversight: Monitor daily schedules, supervise inmate movement, and coordinate operations with multiple departments
  • Housing Unit Monitoring: Conduct tours, track inmate counts, observe inmate behavior, and document irregularities
  • Security Procedures: Oversee transports, process new commitments, and supervise searches of visitors, vehicles, and materials
  • Incident Review: Investigate policy violations, recommend discipline, and participate in grievance and fact finding processes
  • Crisis Response: Act during emergencies to maintain safety and follow established procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours and set pass days to be determined.
  • This position is eligible for retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
