The Research Review Analyst (RRA) works as part of a multi¬ disciplinary team under the auspices of the University of Pittsburgh Human Research Protection Program. The RRA is responsible for maintaining a current working knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to the responsible conduct of human subjects research, along with ensuring compliance with University of Pittsburgh policies and procedures.

The RRA will conduct a thorough review of studies based on federal regulations, state law, and University of Pittsburgh policies and procedures. As an IRB board member, the RRA has the authority to independently approve studies that qualify for exempt/expedited review seeking consultation as necessary. All decisions are documented in the online submission system. As part of a service-oriented outreach program, the RRA will provide consultation and training to members of the research community at large via telephone or through face-to-face meetings.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this position, as the RRA must personally and electronically communicate with members of the research community on a regular basis.

It is preferred that the RRA has a bachelor’s degree in a related field with prior human subjects research experience preferred (2-3 years preferred). Degree in social science, bioethics, RN or related field preferred.

This position is open to a flexible work arrangement which includes in-office and hybrid options.

Serves as a regulatory expert responsible for managing the protocol review process by ensuring compliance with federal regulations, state law, and University of Pittsburgh policies and procedures. Provides regulatory and ethical training and guidance for IRB members and the research community at large through consultation and education

Protocol Review:

Will be responsible for independently reviewing and approving research protocols as IRB members submitted by the research community to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, ethical considerations, and University of Pittsburgh policies and procedures

Consultations:

Will lead complex consultations with investigators and research coordinators to enhance understanding of research regulations.

Educational Programs:

Responsible for implementing programs for the research community to ensure understanding of the regulatory requirements associated with conducting human subjects research.

Other:

Must demonstrate the ability to assume special assignments not otherwise described as determined by HRPO/IRB management.

Job is primarily sedentary but may require travel on campus to attend meetings or events.
