Nurse Manager - General Internal Medicine Oakland (GIMO)

The General Internal Medicine Oakland (GIMO) clinic is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to join the leadership team of one of UPMC's largest academic primary care practices. As the Division of General Internal Medicine's flagship primary care clinic, GIMO supports nearly 45,000 patient visits annually through a multidisciplinary team of physicians, APPs, clinic staff, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare providers.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the clinic staff in a fast-paced environment that combines patient care, innovation, and medical education. The Nurse Manager will play a key role in shaping clinic operations, supporting staff development, driving patient experience initiatives, and advancing the clinic's mission. Direct oversight includes the clinic's outpatient RNs and Medical Assistants, with opportunities to partner closely with physicians, APPs, and operational leaders to continually improve care delivery.

Position Highlights

  • Leadership responsibility for 15-20 direct reports, including Registered Nurses and Medical Assistants.
  • Monday-Friday schedule, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • 100% onsite position located at the General Internal Medicine Clinic on UPMC Presbyterian's campus in Oakland.
  • Opportunity to lead within a large, nationally recognized academic health system.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, operational excellence, and staff engagement.
  • Influence patient experience initiatives and support innovative models of primary care delivery.

What You'll Do

As the Nurse Manager, you will:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of outpatient clinical staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and patient-centered care.
  • Support staff recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and professional development.
  • Drive quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives.
  • Partner with physicians, APPs, and operational leaders to optimize clinic workflows and care delivery processes.
  • Monitor staffing, productivity, and operational performance to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and continuous improvement within the ambulatory setting.

Required:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania or a qualifying Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or a related healthcare field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate patient care and apply clinical knowledge across the lifespan.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field.
  • Progressive leadership experience in an ambulatory, primary care, or healthcare setting.

Clearances & Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR Certification
  • Act 34 Clearance
