What we are looking for
We are seeking a detail-oriented Hardware Quality Assurance Engineer II to join our Hardware Safety and Quality team. The successful candidate will support the establishment, maintenance, and improvement of our Quality Management System (QMS) to help ensure alignment with ISO 9001 standards in the design, development, and operation of hardware products. This role contributes technical support, execution, and continuous-improvement activities under program and QMS leadership.
In this role you will
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ISO 9001 standards for hardware product design and development processes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, engineering, production, and operations to help integrate quality standards throughout the product lifecycle.
Participate in internal audits, risk assessments, and management reviews to help ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and support continuous improvement of the QMS.
Assist in coordinating and delivering quality-related training programs to increase awareness and encourage adherence to quality processes and standards.
Analyze data and metrics related to product quality, help troubleshoot issues, and support implementation of corrective actions as necessary.
Support quality improvement projects and initiatives, applying methodologies such as Six Sigma and Lean principles to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
Contribute to ISO 9001-related inquiries and audit preparation, working with program leads and external auditors as required.
Maintain accurate documentation and records related to quality activities, audits, and compliance assessments.
Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and updates related to ISO standards, and recommend opportunities for improvement in quality management.
Use lean tools, statistical techniques and analytical methods to support problem solving, root cause discovery and corrective action (8D, 5-Why).
Track quality performance metrics, help prioritize issues, and drive continuous improvement activities with cross-functional teams.
Work on continuous improvement of quality processes and procedures and assist with development of quality objectives complementary to organizational objectives.
Participate in initiatives to support business and quality objectives.
Required qualifications
Practical experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Typically 3+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or related roles, with exposure to quality management systems, hardware product development, and operations. (Candidates with broader or deeper experience will also be considered.)
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and quality management methodologies.
Experience with quality tools and techniques such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and similar methods.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at multiple levels.
Detail-oriented with solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Certification in Quality Management, such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), is desirable but not required.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment.
Desirable qualifications
Experience with IATF 16949, ISO 26262.
Familiarity with Minitab or other statistical software.
Experience programming or scripting (C++, Python or equivalent) is a plus.
Experience with Jira, Jama, Arena, and general familiarity with PLM, ERP, and MRP systems.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and 3rd parties.
For roles based in Pittsburgh, PA: The salary range for this position is $126,000 - $201,000 per year.
Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
