This position supports engineering activities that ensure mechanical systems in DMVA facilities are designed, maintained, and improved with technical accuracy. It involves project design, system analysis, consultation, and construction support across heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and fire protection systems. As a Mechanical Engineer 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • System Design: Develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs for renovation and construction projects, including analysis of existing systems
  • Design Review: Evaluate drawings, reports, calculations, and cost estimates to ensure technical accuracy and cost efficiency
  • CAD Development: Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to prepare construction drawings, schedules, and specifications for mechanical systems
  • Technical Assistance: Provide guidance on mechanical systems, equipment selection, and innovative engineering solutions
  • Project Evaluation: Conduct site assessments, develop scopes of work, and identify engineering requirements for proposed projects

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, five days out of every ten days. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Annville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Mechanical Engineer 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; or
  • Two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a valid driver’s license.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires one or more years of experience using AutoCAD, REVIT, or similar Computer Aided Drafting software.
  • This particular position also requires you to possess one of the following:
    • One or more years of professional experience in designing (e.g. calculations, drawings and specifications) hydronic piping heating/cooling systems (e.g. boilers, chillers, circulating pumps, valves, radiators, fan coil units, radiant floor tubing systems, or duct distribution systems similar to variable air volume (VAV) systems or constant volume systems); or
    • Three or more years of professional experience in designing (e.g. calculations, drawings and specifications) plumbing systems (e.g. interior/exterior potable water supply systems, restroom facilities, oil water separators, kitchen equipment, facility water filtration systems, or interior/exterior sanitary sewer systems).
  • You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
